April 3-12, 2017, Professor Jared Diamond gives a series of 10 guest lectures as part of regular LUISS courses.
Jared Diamond is professor of Geography at the University of California, Los Angeles. He also previously taught Political Geography at LUISS. He began his career in physiology and broadened his interests to include evolutionary biology and biogeography. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the American Philosophical Society. Among his many recognitions, Professor Diamond has been awarded the National Medal of Science, the Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement, Japan’s Cosmo Prize, aMacArthur Foundation Fellowship, and the Lewis Thomas Prize Honoring the Scientist as Poet from Rockefeller University.
Professor Diamond has published more than 600 articles and his book Guns, Germs and Steel won the Pulitzer Prize in 1998. In 2005 Professor Diamond was placed ninth in the Prospect and Foreign Policy Top 100 Global Thinkers.
All lessons are held entirely in Italian.
While at LUISS, Professor Diamond will also participate in a series of five Facebook Live sessions on the official LUISS Guido Carli page during which he will welcome questions from LUISS students on themes related to the environment, migration and sustainable development.
