The LUISS Executive Committee, composed of President Emma Marcegaglia, Executive Vice President Luigi Serra, Rector Paola Severino, Deputy Rector Andrea Prencipe and General Manager Giovanni Lo Storto, has nominated Marco Morelli Alumnus 2017.
CEO and General Director of Monte dei Paschi di Siena, Morelli was selected from among several high-profile candidates proposed by the executive committee of the LUISS alumni association.
Now in its third year, the award was established by the alumni association to honor successful graduates of the university that have reached notable leadership positions both in Italy and abroad.
Born in Rome in 1961, Marco Morelli holds a LUISS degree in Economics. Following a successful career with international investment banks including Bank of American Merrill Lynch and JP Morgan, in September 2016 Morelli was appointed CEO and General Director of Monte dei Paschi di Siena.
“It is a great point of pride for the entire university community to award Marco Morelli Alumnus of the Year. A brilliant student and successful leader, he has reached notable professional milestones while paying attention to the country’s economic system. In doing so he has contributed not only in terms of abilities but also as offering an example for talented young people,” declared LUISS President Emma Marcegaglia.
The award not only recognizes Morelli’s professional success but his dedication to social issues as well. Morelli is also founder and vice president of Fondazione Don Gino Rigoldi, a non-profit organization that promotes social inclusion, particularly in younger generations. “This award is particularly important because it honors his dedication to helping others, an essential value of the university. The university is evermore committed to instilling the culture of ethics and sustainability thanks to numerous volunteer activities and soft skills courses,” continues President Marcegaglia.
“Marco Morelli is an incredible example of courage, determination and vision that gives an active contribution to the university’s high-quality reputation from his passion for teaching to his work for the alumni community. This award also recognizes his leadership in a community of over 30,000 active members around the world, which has been a strategic think-tank for the university for over thirty years,” concludes President of the LUISS alumni association Daniele Pelli.
The award ceremony and gala dinner will be held on Thursday, September 21 at 7:00 p.m. on the Viale Romania campus. Participating in the event, in addition to LUISS graduates, will be university leaders and representatives of the business and government worlds.
