Guglielmo Tozzi is a graduate of the Luiss bachelor’s program in Political Science and the master’s program in Government, Administration and Policy. Among the University’s strengths, in Guglielmo’s opinion, are the numerous academic and extracurricular opportunities offered by the University: “All these activities are fundamental both on a personal and professional level and they allow us to have a complete college experience.”

The graduate volunteers with the Comunità di Sant’Egidio and is currently working on their School of Peace. “We are working with families on the outskirts of Rome and planning a variety of activities with their children.” Guglielmo and other Luiss students help young students with their homework and talk to them about issues in their daily lives, including diversity, ecology and racism.

“Right now, with the quarantine, we have created different ways to stay close to the children. We call them or video chat with them to maintain our relationships, then we help them with their homework and respond to their needs.” To give the children a sense of community and help them understand the conditions of people outside of their families, Luiss students asked the kids to draw pictures that were then used to create a video for residents of a nursing home.

“Luiss makes us feel fortunate and gives us all the tools we need to give back a little bit of what we have to other people.” Guglielmo recommends that all students participate in a volunteering project to “learn a lot about yourself and keep your feet on the ground. Witnessing first-hand the issues that the people around us have to face leaves a deep mark.”

Guglielmo’s fondest memory of his time at Luiss was his graduation: a highly satisfying way to conclude both a personal and academic path. In the future, he hopes to continue learning and working with Comunità di Sant’Egidio while launching his career.

“Anyone can volunteer, and we love to talk about our experiences because we want to inspire responsible behavior. We would be happy to involve new students, not only because it’s more than possible to volunteer and study at the same time, but because there truly is a need.”
