On Monday, September 21, Professor Akio Takahara from the University of Tokyo will be at LUISS with a lecture entitled Security Changes in East Asia.
The professor of Chinese Politics and International Relations in East Asia will be a special guest of Professor Raffaele Marchetti, speaking from 2:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. in Aula 303 on the Viale Romania campus.
Professor Takahara will analyze the situation in East Asia from Japan's point of view, representing its large market in continual growth. He will then turn to China's role as second economic power in the international community. The professor will furthermore discuss contemporary Chinese internal policies and foreign relations in addition to the effect of Chinese hegemony on East Asia and Europe, considering how its increasing military and economic growth will influence the future of the world.
Akio Takahara was awarded a PhD at the University of Sussex in 1988 and subsequently acted as a Visiting Scholar at the Consulate General of Japan in Hong Kong (1989-91) and the Embassy of Japan in Beijing (1996-98) while from 2005-06 he was a Visiting Professor at Harvard's Fairbank Center for East Asian Research. Before his tenure at the University of Tokyo, Professor Takahara taught in various Japanese universities including J. F. Oberlin University and Rikkyo University. Professor Takahara is also a member of the Japan-China Friendship Committee for the 21st Century and the Japan Institute of International Affairs.
