Developing the economy and society of Southern Italy is a key to the country’s future. Struck hard by the economic crisis from 2008-2013, productivity has yet to recover to pre-recession levels, with dramatic results for employment and quality of life.
Yet at the same time, the South also is home to dynamic and promising productive niches where entrepreneurship coexists with solid administrative practices, testimony to the efficient use of structural funds.
To develop research and education on Italy’s Mezzogiorno, LUISS and Invitalia launch two parallel initiatives: the Laboratorio LUISS sul Mezzogiorno (an observatory on innovation, business and development) and a master’s program in Economics and Development Policy, organized in collaboration with the LUISS School of Government and the Laboratorio LUISS sul Mezzogiorno.
