LUISS SMD convenzione

On Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at the Cabinet Office of the Ministry of Defense in Rome,  Chief of Defense General Claudio Graziano, LUISS Rector Paola Severino, and LUISS General Manager Giovanni Lo Storto renewed the collaboration to continue sharing knowledge, know-how and professional experience.

“This is an important milestone that enrichens and strengthens the collaboration between LUISS Guido Carli and the Cabinet off of the Ministry of Defense. Dating back to 2009, and looking to the future for increasingly-intense education and experience in the world of defense, thanks to a concrete approach, the collaboration allows students to become familiar with dynamics of international politics and national security,” declares Professor Paola Severino.

General Graziano underlines that it is “necessary, in a moment when problems are approached with a comprehensive approach, to create opportunities to exchange knowledge between the military and academic worlds.” The chief of defense continues: “Only in this way can we build the base to develop, between the future leaders of the Armed Forces, institutions and the business world, a common language and shared objectives to work side by side in both national and international contexts.”

“The collaboration, renewed for another year, gives LUISS students the chance to visit training centers of the Italian Army and come in contact with officials of the Armed Forces through courses, master’s programs, and internships with various branches of the Ministry of Defense. Thanks to previous agreements with the Cabinet Office of the Ministry of Defense, over twenty LUISS students have visited multi-force operation theaters in Kosovo and Lebanon, where the Italian Army is actively involved.

With the goal of exchanging skills and content, the agreement allows five officials from the Cabinet Office of the Ministry of Defense to follow master’s courses in one of the four LUISS Schools (School of GovernmentSchool of LawEuropean Political Economy and Business School) in order to further their knowledge of international relations, EU policy and economic governance, integration processes and information security.
