On Wednesday, September 23 at 6:00 pm, Luiss presents Disinformation and Hate Speech: a European Constitutional Perspective, a new publication from Giovanni Pitruzzella and Oreste Pollicino.
During the event, the authors speak with International Criminal Court Justice Rosario Aitala and Luiss Vice President Paola Severino. Welcoming guests is Luiss Rector Andrea Prencipe and moderating the conversation is Corriere della Sera Editorialist Maurizio Caprara.
The event is held in Italian and will be transmitted live on the University's Facebook and YouTube channels.
What is the right balance between freedom of speech - an essential right and value of every democratic society - and other constitutional rights when we are faced with fake news and extremist rhetoric? How are legislators in Europe and around the world acting against the steady increase of disinformation online? What effect does all of this have on democratic processes? And what, finally, is the most effective approach to adopt?
According to the authors, the answers to these questions have deep roots that must be traced to the origins of contemporary constitutionalism, to the constitutional traditions of Europe and the United States. More specifically, the authors will discuss freedom of expression, its development and application in the digital dimension.
