Martina Bacco and Leonardo Naccarelli, two Luiss Law students, chose the University for its international approach, numerous clubs and initiatives, as well as its interdepartmental philosophy.
Both have participated in several extracurricular activities, including Legalità e Merito, and most notable, Universities for Legality, organized by Fondazione Falcone. The program gave them the opportunity to learn about the world of prisons, to start a dialogue with young people and engage them in discussions easy to deem too institutional. In Martina’s opinion, “studying and academic performance are important, but students shouldn’t overlook extracurricular projects because the University offers so many opportunities.”
Among Leonardo’s most fond memories of his time at Luiss is the day he could come back to campus after the lockdown. “Coming back to Luiss after months and months of lessons online was so exciting. Even just to see old friends.” For Martina, the most important moment was when she realized she felt at home on campus, even if she was far from her family and friends. “I immediately felt like I belonged at Luiss, and that feeling never went away. I will definitely miss the University when it’s my time to leave.”
Martina’s advice to students just starting their university careers is to do whatever you’re passionate about and try out different experiences. Another important aspect to both students is the importance of developing a network of relationships that can help you in the future.
After developing a passion for criminal law, in the future, Leonardo hopes to become a prosecutor. Martina, on the other hand, finds herself more interested in public and administrative law and is still deciding what career path she would like to follow. She does, however, dream of one day making it to the constitutional court.
