The 32nd edition of the Olympic Games will be held between July 23 and  August 8.

Filippo Tortu has always proven to be a promising Italian athlete. The Italian sprinter was in fact been the first to break the 10-second barrier for the 100 meters sprint, a record that was established by Mennea in 1979. Now, after just missing the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics and stopping for a year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the top Luiss athlete is ready to take the Olympics.

The athlete described the emotions before departing for the Olympic Games and his future goals.

  1. Use three adjectives to describe how you feel in view of the starting the Olympics.

Impatient, determined, happy.

  1. Do you have a pre-competition ritual ? If so, what is it?

I look for my father on the stands, he does a gesture implying ‘I’m a chicken’ and I always answer with a rude gesture. It’s a ritual since I was a child, and we do before all competitions.

  1. Are you more anxious before a competition or before an exam?

Definitely before an exam.

  1. Will you take books with you to the Olympic Games?

I’m not sure. Your thoughts in those situations are focused on the competition. Perhaps, I should take my books to prepare for exams.

  1. Does having an athlete’s mindset help you in your university career? How?

It helps for sure, even if I must admit that at this moment in time, I’m having a harder time studying because I’m hyper-focused on the Olympics. You need to find the right balance as applies to everything, by altering training for competitions and studying for exams.

  1. When you’re not busy with competitions, training and studying, what are your hobbies?

I always listen to music, go out with friends, and watch sporting events. I tried not to miss a single match during the European Cup. We were great and showed what we’re worth!

  1. What’s your secret wish? What’s your dream?

Dreams are wishes. You mustn’t speak your wishes, or they won't come true. I can say nothing for now, but I promise as soon as I realize it, I’ll reveal what it is.
